Sometime ago we took a consulting role to investigate enterprise software options for Aviation MRO. MRO is the acronym for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul. The objective of such a software is to help track the logistics, inventory, spare parts and work orders related to maintenance activities. MRO is sometimes confused with Enterprise Asset Management, but it is not. Aviation MRO may be a distant brother of EAM software, but its complexity and market is rather different.

Aviation MRO is very niche but powerful industry. Software players in this category are not as the SAPs and Oracles that you hear about every day, but rather powerful software house that remain in the background serving multi-million dollar Aviation companies in their operations and logistics.

The company has 2,000 customers and is present in more than 50 countries with 2,700 employees in total. Although IFS is a late entrant player in the MRO market (2001-2003), they are still considered a global player with a global footprint due to their ERP software success. IFS entered into the MRO market thru a partnership with GE Engine Services. They were recently selected by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United Stated for their supply chain and MRO solution.
